"If we begin with the Fundamentals, we not only produce a better bass player, but a well-rounded musician as well" --Arturo Nunez

We begin our journey by equipping you with a solid theoretical foundation upon which to build and develop into the very BEST bassist possible.

Syllabus

There are 10 main 'modules' that you'll be responsible for during your stay here. The first set is theory-based. The second is style-based. It's taken me quite a while to settle on this particular combination of modules. I've gauged the effectiveness of each module through careful observation with hundreds of students. In addition, each module has been edited numerous times, so that what remains is only the material that has proven absolutely effective in the learning process. It is my strong opinion that this specific combination of modules will expose you to all the major concepts of performance-based playing. It will also introduce you to the major styles that bass players customarily encounter.

Content & Design

The structure of my course was designed so that each module builds upon the one preceding it. Each module is 'scaffolded' in order to create a completely synchronized and inter-locking curriculum. In addition, we continually incorporate ALL of our prior knowledge into each successive lesson. We thus reinforce your ability to call upon your theoretic-based knowledge and apply it to your performance-based playing.

Learning Styles

According to learning theorists, there are three main ways in which we 'learn.' We use Audial (what we hear), Visual (what we see), and Kinesthetic/Tactile (what we touch) to process incoming information. Intensive Fundamental Bass Series collectively incorporates all three styles into its overall approach.

Self-Paced Learning

People have demanding schedules. In addition, our family-based commitments are often vying for what little time is left. It is for this reason that Intensive Fundamental Bass Series is entirely self-paced. You advance from module to module at a pace that's right for you. You can make it as rigorous or as accomodating as you'd like. It's all up to you.

Assessments

Before moving onto a different module, each student receives an assessment test to determine whether they're sufficiently ready to advance. These tests are multimedia presentations which automatically advance on a timed sequence. This generates the necessary data that we use to measure and track a student's progress.

Multimedia Presentations

We have created and designed literally hundreds of multimedia slides to go with our presentations. Depending on the module, we can choose from up to 30 different presentations, each focusing on a different aspect of theory/playing. Many of the slides contain sound clips. The images are projected onto an 84" screen using the highly-acclaimed, state of the art Mistubishi XD300U projector.

Computer-based Exercises

I've created an entire series of computer-based exercises to go along with the course. You'll receive these exercises through the email. They're designed to correspond directly to the module you're currently studying.

Professionally-rendered Handouts

Depending on your skill level, it may take between 2 to 3 lessons to complete each module (the rate at which you proceed is ultimately up to you). I've broken down each module into small, manageable 'chunks' for easy assimiliation. You'll receive professionally-rendered handouts with each module, complete with diagrams, illustrations, detailed explanations, fingerings and lesson objective(s).

Personalized Coaching

Think of me as your personal coach. I have over 30 years experience as an accomplished bassist and performer. But more than this, know that I am committed to seeing you succeed in my course. I have a personal stake in seeing you grow not only a bassist, but as a complete, well-rounded musician. That's my job, and I take that charge very seriously.
